Project subpage

We implemented the project in 6 villages in Heves and in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén counties. The population of the villages changes between 300 – 1900 inhabitants, the ratio of Roma population moves between 15 – 60%.

The project aimed to develop local Roma civil organisations and was based on settlement houses. Our goal was to generate ‘creative groups’ established by local organisations. The groups developed their own ‘cultural products’ based on their traditions and ideas and presented in public several times.

‘Cultural products’ created by ‘creative groups’ by involved settlements:

  • Bükkszentmárton: handcrafted (wattled) baskets, trays, plant pots; mats, scarves, shawls, pictures (with textile spinning, silk painting);
  • Egerbakta: Baktarom Band (authentic Roma ethno music); two-hour programme (with 70 songs);
  • Hevesaranyos: Amaro Somnakaj (traditional Roma dance band); one-hour dance repertoire and two-hour Roma ’dance house’;
  • Sirok: handcrafted clothes (skirts, blouses) and accessories (cases, bags, necklaces, earrings) with Roma motives, patterns;
  • Szajla: community play/performance (title: ‘Secret’); Szomolya: Phralenca Band (authentic Roma ethno music); one-hour programme (with 30 songs); Street Art Group (22 community installations).
