The Project Promoter S-Metalltech 98 Ltd produces adsorbent materials in its factory located at the Jászfényszaru Industrial Park, for removing arsenic, boron, iodine and fluorine contaminations from the waters. The applied technology is capable to produce 400 liter/day adsorber material. During the production process 1 m3/day hazardous waste water was produced containing cca. 20% dimetil-sulfoxide (DMSO) dissolvent.

 These water/DMSO solution were collected at the factory and shipped to the incineration plant to be burned. This process is expensive furthermore deplets the environment. The S-Metalltech 98 Ltd decided to improve its adsorber production technology.

 

As a result of the technological development and the installation of the properly designed and built equipment in the frame of the project the quantity of the hazardous waste waters were significantly decreased, treatment of the wastes became more effective and an environmental-friend technology was realized.

The hazardous DMSO–water solution is separated by distillation in two steps. The result of distillation is industrial grade DMSO and clean water.

The newly developed process reduces the environmental impact of the adsorbent production technology by reducing the amount of the hazardous waste and the emissions of carbon dioxide, as follows:
